My first machines were all assembled with tin-lead solder, not knowing that this soft solder was structurally unsound and that in time, any part under significant tension would fall apart. Early fragile machines built this way contained many playful mechanical ideas that could no longer be appreciated because the machines themselves were no longer operative. The three meditation pieces are re-creations of particular ideas that I loved and wished to see again.

  • If you watch his TED talk he says he now spot welds and uses silver solder (brazing i think)

  • same, I tried brazing instead of soldering, but its not as easy as the old 50/50 tin lead mix, any know of a solder that stronger than 50/50 but works the same, like with a normAL soldering iron?
