The two speakers recall education related facts and funny aspects from the communist period.
The communist party promoted equality which in education actually meant mediocrity, since everyone had to pass all exams and teachers who failed students were prosecuted.
Also, since the beginning of the communist period meant a massive attack against the intellectuals of the time who got into prisons or were compelled to accept menial jobs or forced labour, there was a crisis of staff in all fields of activity. This meant that students who wanted to become economists, teachers, even doctors graduated and could practice these jobs after a course of just 6 months, many of them without at least a high school diploma.
Dr. Ghivercea also remembers the moment when the system asked these people to update their training first by graduating high school and how as a student he tutored such a person, aged 50, to pass his school-leaving exams.
However, the speakers recall that the communist system had a very correct system of values, which meant that the good professionals were always promoted, with the condition that they have a good, clean past, without any anti-communist stains. Otherwise, an unhealthy past meant that you could not go to school and your rights were utterly limited.
