Liu Gongquan ( 柳公權,Liu Gong-Chuan, 778-865, Tang Dynasty) combined Ouyang Xun's refined features of elegant, angular strokes with the fullness and weight of Yan Zhenqing's style to create his own Kaishu style, which demonstrates structure, discipline, and clarity. His Kaishu calligraphy was so famous in the Tang Dynasty that if there were any officers who did not ask him to write for their family steles they were considered not showing enough filial piety. In reply to the emperor's inquiry about the best way to use the brush, he advised that "An upright heart makes for an upright brush," pointing out that our brushwork always reflects our personality - and implying that it is possible to improve both.

何解

@1088chong

Thank you for another valuable upload. At 2.19 you showed a piece of work done by 10-year olds - if they can write this well at such a tender age, they will will surely become great calligraphers in no time ! Rgds

@cristobelle56 Welcome. When I was at age 10, my teacher had about 10% students that could write more skillfully than me. It's a matter of whether those talented young children will continue or not. In most cases, because of entering good high schools and universities in Taiwan or China were very difficult and limited, we usually focused on math and gave up calligraphy and the like.
