Based on actual conversations, here is a little sketch about how many people today respond to the truth claims of religion in general and Jesus in particular.

  • We need to leave now, just drink this kool-aid lace with arsenic.

  • I like how they messed this up. The guy only presents actual evidence of the fire to the third man.

The key here is evidence. You have to present it in order to be taken seriously. Fires in buildings are a real thing, but since this is an analogy of Hell and there's no evidence of such a place existing, I remain unconvinced that I need the path to salvation you're trying to present.

Of course, I could be wrong. Present your evidence if you have it and if it's convincing, I'll change my mind.

  • A fire is something I can investigate rather quickly. The effort required in investigating is worth the horrible death that would result in ignoring the claim.

    I have investigated.

And the news is good; there is no good reason to believe that a fire exists.

  • We all know that God exists and about his power and authority over us. We are given this 'sneak peak' in our human nature and in all nature around us. I agree that it is possible to then engage this and reject this, but that's what it is: a rejection of what we already know.

  • That was great Don! I just wish people understood what it meant :-( Did you see that guys video responding to it?... so sad :-(

  • Awesome! I had no idea that was what Brandon looked like... totally threw me off. SO i think this video is fantastic in showing different rejections to the truth and how, despite the ability to show evidence for the fire, people don't want to see it. They say they want evidence but when given the chance to see it(smoke outside, people gathering, the fire behind the door) they would rather sit in their seats and burn. Good portrayal DJM!!! Make more I'm showing this to my Youth Group!

  • Personally, I think it's perfectly possible to engage intellectually with these theological issues, and ultimately reject them (i.e. not become a Christian). I've done just this. But just because I don't believe that Christianity is true, it doesn't mean that I think all negative responses to it, and arguments against it are equally valid.

  • However, even if the video hadn't shown us the clip of the fire at the start, and we weren't as viewers 110% sure that the fire was real and the guy running around the building wasn't just playing some prank, this doesn't actually make the reactions shown in the clip any more rational or sensible. And this is the point that I think the video was trying to make - not that atheists are idiots, but that there are SOME responses to these issues that just don't make sense.
