Just a couple of thoughts on Lauryn's news last week.

Some tooth-extraction issues had me sidelined last month but I should be back in effect now. For those asking, I don't know that I have anything to say about the debt ceiling that hasn't been said, but I did post about it here: http://jsmooth995.tumblr.com/

  • My 11-year-old daughter recently discovered Lauryn Hill on my iPod. After listening to it thru a couple of times, she asked, "How come you don't have more of her songs?"

  • @limeginger I like your response. However, how do we not know that is exactly what she is doing? She might be writing, singing, etc. She could just be doing it for her family and friends. I have a friend who is extremely talented in singing, poetry, writing, etc. However, she has no plans of ever trying to go famous. She enjoys her life, raising her children, and providing her family and friends with her talent.

  • @BacteriaNY She dropped an album last year; Classic. Super dope.

  • @weepulization That blows. Dirty Harriet is still a banger.

  • @BacteriaNY jay-z had her signed on his label, but now shes shelved talent :(

  • Word!

  • @mnolanporter Your daughter is awesome!

  • My favorite sentence: When your love for their work overrides your awareness of their humanity, that's not love anymore. That' just entitlement." Jay Smooth and his way with words!

  • Same thing happened with Ricky Williams.

  • Well put. Lauryn is the antithesis of greed and pretentiousness and sees the value in living life for yourself, family and children and not your record producer. True art is not a "job".

  • I think many of Lauryn Hill's fans are worried about her mental health. They may also disapprove of her (or anyone else) having so many children by a man who isn't faithful & won't commit. BTW-I have never liked any of her music.
