Different character to the MKII violins, but every bit as gorgeous.

  • It's too bad that the presentations of the Mellotrons on YouTube don't do the instrument justice. Most all sound like a scratchy record on your great granny's Victrola ( Yea look up Victrola ). You should hear the strings through a nice EQed sound system with 15's and high frequency drivers and a touch of concert hall reverb. FANTASTIC!!!!!

  • @Keyboardman88 Oh I agree, through a nice big sound system they're unbeatable - but not having the space for such things in this room I have to make do with what's available to me!

  • oh wow!!! These instruments are so rare!! Is it an old one or did you buy it recently? I'd sure like to have one of those!Mellotron is the key instrument to king crimson!

  • Absolutely, especially early King Crimson, you can't beat that sound! My 'tron is an old one (dates back to about 1972, I'm reliably informed), and I bought it in 1989, so it has served me well all this time. The replacement tapes are relatively new though, I got those about 4 years ago.

  • I love hearing the tapes snap back into place. Vintage!

  • Thank you very much for that information! Do you by any chance know if they are still on sale? I've tried to find them but couldn't. They would probably be expensive...How much did your cost back then?

  • Mr. Mellotron you are very prolific and talented!
