It's not a dumb name, it's just that you don't know what it refers to : Bubblegum Crisis is the limit point when a bomb is exploding : right before it cracks, it looks like an inflated bubblegum.
Of course, bubblegum crash is the point right after it cracks.

@opticullen if you put "bubblegum crisis live" on a youtube search, youll find a live performance of the woman who sings this song. i do think its the same person but its been awhile since i looked it up.
