FOURTEEN
I drop to the floor, looking for one ring. One completely new ruby and diamond ring. It must be somewhere scattered on this dirty restaurant floor.
"In case you didn't know, humans can walk on twos instead of fours," Stephen kneels down, and explains to me, making himself laugh.
"I have no time for your stupid humor," I cry out miserably.
"Whoa, what's a matter, what's wrong?" he helps up, holding me by my shoulder, staring me right in my eyes.
"Go away!" I push him off," if you weren't so-so stupid I wouldn't have lost it!"
"Lost what?" he furrows his eyebrows.
'Nothing! Okay, just go with your stupid self and leave me because I can't find that stupid beautiful ring."
No one in the restaurant seems to be paying attention to me right now. I'm just an everyday teen girl in a BCBG dress having a meltdown in the middle of a hotel restaurant because of a lost ring that her boyfriend gave her. Nothing out of the ordinary.
"I'll help you find it then," Stephen offers, slinging a rag over his shoulder and kneeling to the ground.
"No, no, just leave, I don't need your help, why are you even here?"
"I'm a bartender," he grins, looking at me proudly.
"What a very prominent position," I remark, still searching.
"Katrina?" I hear Aaron call out from behind.
"Oh shit!" I quickly crawl away hiding behind the bar, only to have my hand encounter gum.
"I think your boyfriend is looking for you," Stephen mumbles crawling and sitting right beside me.
"You think I don't know that!" I glare," WHY ME?"
"This isn't your day I'm guessing," he takes my head, wiping the sticky gum mess off with his rag.
"It was amazing until I saw you," I inject.
"Sure blame everything on me!"
"I will! You know why? Because you're stupid!"
"You're not one to talk Ms. I lost my boyfriend's ring."
"Oh just shut up bartender boy," I snarl.
"Excuse me?" I hear Aaron, so close. He must be in front of the bar.
"Crap," I utter, inching away from the bar.
"Hi sir, how may I help you?" Stephen immediately stands up.
"You! You're that one guy," Aaron recalls.
"Yes I am?" Stephen gives a confused look.
"Not assuming that you know where she is 24/7, but would you happen to know where Katrina is?" Aaron sighs.
"Actually-," I cut Stephen off by stabbing his foot with my heel, making him turn red.
"Never mind...," Aaron replies, I hear him walk away.
"You're stupid!" I smack Stephen on the back of his head as I get up off the floor.
"KATRINA?" Aaron exclaims, turning to see me, right next to Stephen.
"Aaron...," I squeak out.
"What are you doing here? At the bar. With him?" Aaron gives Stephen a look.
"Come on man, just let her explain," Stephen pleads.
"You're defending her?" he says.
"No Aaron, he's stupid, don't even worry about it."
"If any guy is going to be called stupid here, it's not me."
"What did you say bartender?" Aaron glares jumping over the bar that barricaded me and Stephen from him.
"Aaron! Don't do this please!"
"SECURITY!" Stephen calls out.
Two tall buff men, both with receding hairlines, immediately come over, tearing Aaron away from strangling Stephen and carrying him out.
"Hey!" Stephen falls to the floor," I found a ring!"
"Give me that! You're stupid!" I snatch it away from him, stumbling out, one heel on and another in my hand.
