  • Take a deep breath, relax.

This is a student project from four years ago. I appreciate your criticism, however misplaced. The project originally assigned only took into account the redesign of the park space along gore creek. My concept expanded the scope to include the reorganization of the village core and revitalization of the gore creek frontage which is almost entirely buried in the Wendy's-esque logotecture that is Vail Village. The concept was to reinvigorate....

...gore creek and re-focus the village core on landscape and public space rather than vice-versa. The proposed 'mall' entry and new bridge was designed to center visitor attention on the mountain and mountain experience, while encouraging more interaction with the creek and the things that make Vail a special place. I agree that the pedestrian space on bridge street is nice, but it also has a very 'exit through the gift shop' feel if you know what I mean. Are you feeling better now?

  • great job! we had fun watching this in class.

  • What class and where?

  • How difficult is it to become a landscape architect? I want to switch my major to landscape architect but someone told me it was super tuff to get through.

  • It's not easy, but it hardly feels like work if you are passionate about design, coming up with new ideas, drawing and truly thinking and analyzing everything under the sun, literally.

The workload is generally very high. If you are a student looking to lighten your work load and do something "easy" this is not the major for you.

  • @nca777, When you were an Landscape Architecture student, what type of work did your teachers or professors assign you? What characterized your daily homework? Just written out of curiosity. :)

  • Wow! Indeed awesome!

  • I am an Architecture student of 2009 from Indonesian. and this my second year, I will through year three for next three month. I Through study of Architecture design studio, and for now is " Architecture Design Studio 3 " I've designed some building, such as approach watchman station, cafe, living house, living house with a marketing room, villa, traditional food ( malay ) restaurant, and now I am designing sport center indoor, the concept is torch, show spirit of fire from athletes, thank you.

  • Your design obliterates the excellent urban enclosure at the bottom of Bridge street and replaces it with redundant green space. Gore Creek Park already exists, and meets the needs of the village core. Ford Theater meets the needs of an outdoor theater, and Siebert Circle meets the needs of an informal gathering space.

In essence, your concept is to obliterate something great and to replace it with something redundant and ill conceived. Congratulations to you and Joe McGrane.

  • Very cool!

It's nice when a school actually teaches you stuff you can use in the field! So many schools nowadays are all about textbooks, reading, homework.... Not enough fun REAL LIFE projects!!!

    5 stars!

  • i went through a large roll in less than a semester lol....drafting class...studying architecture too
