I have to wonder why John and Gayane would risk their lives to expose this information, since they claim that the CIA is so ruthless. It seems to me that this is some kind of posturing for a purpose that isn't readily understandable. Plus if you read his response to the question of whether he ever tortured anyone, it seems clear that he was lying when he said no on moral grounds. I would say he has definitely been involved in some kind of torture.

I have not seen evidence about torture in Russia, at least no systematic torture and torture camps like Gitmo. There might be in some individual level like Mafia torture, but Mafias are everywhere. Russian government does not practice torture at least there is no evidence since Putin came to power and as being ex-KGB agent he probably knew that torture DOES NOT WORK and produces only false testimonies.
