Lennon is on record saying, "Before Elvis there was nothing," but I think Cook had more to do with the iconoclastic changes that pervaded the middle of the last centur than the king.. Sure, Elvis was sexy but Cook had something far more potent and devastating: wit.

Not sure about the timing, but if you're referring to Peter & Dudley as the Scottish Sonny & Cher, it's from the first season of Saturday Night Live.
