French experimental electro-pop band Krapp released their debut album A Void On A Cradle this week on Fluttery Records.

Krapp have been around since 2008 and are made up primarily of vocalist Olga Svobodova and multi-instrumentalist Mr. K, plus a host of guest musicians. Although hailing from France, Krapp's experimental sound is reminiscent of Scandinavian musicians such as Björk, The Knife, and Röyksopp and it's not surprising to hear they list Portishead as one of their main influences.

The band are known for their love of mixing surreal poetic lyrics with sampled beats, replacing drums for animal noises or the crack of a beer can opening. Svobodova's haunting vocals sound like she's a bizarre Beth Gibbons/Björk lovechild.

  • This is nothing like The Knife, Bjork or Royksopp.

Portishead yes, but the rest is used for tags and hits.

  • @TBConfirmed They're not being used as tags though.
