Cindy just returned from a mission trip with Samaritan's Purse! She went to Port Alsworth, Alaska again to help work on their camp for wounded veterans. Her heart is tugging with love for this mission! A quick summary for some...This is a fishing/hunting camp which SP bought and is remodeling/building on Lake Clark in Port Alsworth. Last year Tony and I went in September and helped build the "utilador" which is a compartment which runs underground from the boiler room to each building on the campus. It houses the hot water and cold water piping, electricity and piped heat for each unit. Anyway, the campus is being built as a retreat for disabled veterans and their families to use. There will be activities for physical, emotional and spiritual growth available to the families to help them come to terms somehow, with their new lives together.
There has been allot done since I was there last year. The utilidors are covered and walkways have been built on top. New buildings, repaired buildings, and buildings still in progress are everywhere. Due to weather, everything outside has to be done by the end of October at the latest and then the contractors/volunteers can only work inside the ones that have been sufficiently insulated. Mr. Franklin Graham would like the 1st veterans use it by the end of June next year! (See my pics on Facebook!)
I used to work here when it was Fishing Unlimited Lodges back in 1994/95. What a blessing to see how this amazing place is being used for ministry. Port Alsworth is a part of the world intricately hand painted by the Lord, a beautiful place for healing. I will pray for all of you and your work there.
