  • Was at the radisson 2 nights ago. Fantastic building with beautiful architecture, in a great little town. Even got video of one of the trains going by just before I was leaving. I'll post it shortly.

  • @intercityrailpal The final blow was removal of the mail from passenger trains. This was much of the revenue for these trains. The highway lobby working behind the scenes (they still do it today) got the post office to remove the mail and put it on their trucks and roads. Now we have snail mail and 44 cent postage. The post office is loosing millions and millions on the oil to fuel these over the road trucks.

  • @intercityrailpal The food in the hotel is great! It is "the" place to stay in Scranton.

One of the trains not mentioned is the "Pittsburgh Express" via DL&W and PRR. These trains died due to lack of investment in the tracks to keep up with modern highway and air service. Which the government invested in heavy. The ticket taxes on train tickets was invested in roads and airports along with trust fund.

  • My favorite train station. I just wish when Amtrak does finally come to Scranton, like it should. With service just not only to New York but Binghamton and Syracuse so I can catch the "Lake Shore Limited" to Chicago without renting a car or taxi to go to Port Jervis to catch a NJ Transit train, then the "Lake Shore" out of NY. The rooms you can get sometimes for $99 a night are well worth it. I love to stay here.
