I used to have school games near the race course from 1966 and could see the shed far up above; once someone shouted there's a "Brit" up there and all I could see was a green engine amongst all the black ones. Then interested in steam, I bought a Locoshed book and walked up there (bus from town, along Jones Rd and up the cinder path). Amazing to wander around this dark dank place inhabited by these wheezing hissing monsters, several simply waiting scrap. This brings it all back - thank you !.

I now live in Cardiff but my trainspotting days started at Oxley Shed. Walk along the canal near the racecourse and up the cinder path to the tracks. All my photos of the shed were stolen many years ago. Then after Oxley away down to Stafford Road shed to see if our friendly chap was on the desk to let us in and up the stairs. Then across the road to Stafford Road works. On a Sunday we'd stand a great chance of going in unhindered.

@northstar1950 It is great to take a glance at two of these prints hanging by our front door, as I leave for work each day. Sometimes I think 'Wouldn't it be great if I was going on shift for a few hours on the footplate!'

This might be the best series of UK steam photographs I ever saw. 5*+

Thanks for that. Only my second go at Windows Moviemaker - I'd change it now and also try a program that lets you scan across the image.
