In this 1947 recording, Bidú Sayão (1902-1999) sings "Think On Me," composed by Alicia Ann Scott (1810-1900) and arranged by Carol Perrenot. Milne Charnley accompanies on the piano.

I created this video from the LP, "Bidú Sayão: My Encores / Folk Songs of Brazil," issued in 1947 on the Columbia Masterworks label, serial number ML 4154.

I have included at the close of this video some images of the text from the LP jacket, reverse side, describing the works included on this LP.

So that there is no question in the mind of the listener, I rely principally on images of the LP and LP jacket in order to document the authenticity of historically important recordings such as these.

From this same LP:

Much pleasure and curiousity listening to the voice of Bidu Sayao. I wish mid-twentieth century recording technology could have savoured Milne Charnley's piano as tenderly and attentively as it did the voice. But I'm grateful to hear this recording . . . it is both art and history in its 1947 setting.

Thank you for sharing the sounds and their jacket cover. Quite interesting.

Thanks for your note. I think its important to add as much documentary material to these videos as one can. YouTube -- or at least segments of it -- is an important historical archive. best, david

Absolutely charming! She was truly one of a kind! Many thanks. It is a beautiful song which needs to be heard more. I posted other performances of this with Thomas L. Thomas and one with Nan Merriman.

This is amazing! The composer is Lady John Scott. I have a different arrangement and recently accompanied a tenor. Thanks for posting!!!
