There are 3 million auto rickshaws(tuk tuks) in India.
Most of them uses petrol/diesel engines and are a major cause of
pollution in urban India. Our research project is aimed at converting
a diesel powered rickshaw into an electric/diesel hybrid. We found
that this would considerably reduce the fuel cost for rickshaw drivers
and will be more environment friendly.
