I used to work at Petsmart and there was a movie theater across the road from our store. On one hot summer day, some idiot left their poor boxer in the car while they went to see a film, and the police department had to be called to break into the car and carry the dog to Banfield (our vet). Unfortunately, the animal did not survive... Hyperthermia is a big deal in dogs.

@lacombelj, I agree. Put a thick, heavy coat on these owners and leave them in the car for a 'quick trip' in to the store. If the sun has gone down, I'll sometimes take a dog with me to pick up pizza or Chinese take-out, but even then, if it's summer the car stays running with the A/C on.

Recently the house next door to mine caught on fire and burned down. I had to put all my 6 dogs in my car, where they had to stay until emergency vehicles let us out 2 hours later. They were in the car for just 10 minutes without A/C, and it was night, but the heat had increased alarmingly. Needless to say, they got A/C full blast until it was time to go. They were very happily hanging out, watching all the people go by. Just realize that night isn't a safe time to forgo A/C.

I have absolutely NO tollerence for these idiots. These pets should be taken away from these heartless, cruel morrons. There should be a Psych. test everyone wanting a pet or a child would need to pass. This idiot test should be the Law everywhere.!!!
I would love to put these " people" in this same situation so they can suffer the same way but leave them in there a lot longer.

Let the dog die. Al Gore would say that's the green thing to do as it is only emitting TOXIC CO2!!

I once saw a dog in the mall parking lot that was in obvious distress. i was just ready to break the car window when the owner came out. I was livid and went off on the guy. security ended up calling the police and I was almost arrested! The girl is right, that its best to leave immediately after the incident is over. emotions are high.
If I see a dog suffering in a car I will break the window to let the dog out and there will be a big confrontation and maybe a beating for the owner
