Dislike simply because a square knot is NOT a safe knot to risk your life on. You're better off with a sheet bend or double beckett bend.

@xXbodhichittaXx LOL and I"m sure that's why Navies all around the world still teach this knot in their basic training for use in "securing" 2 lines of the same size together... sorry but seems to me you are either doing it wrong or don't know what you are talking about...
now 2 lines of different sizes... well that's different but that's also what the sheet bend is for.

When you tied the knot on the bight, I had trouble seeing the working ends after the knot was completed. It looks like you tied a "thief knot" which looks a lot like a square knot (reef knot); but it is not as secure. The test is this: Reef or Square Knot = working ends are on the same side when completed. Thief Knot = working ends are on opposite sides when completed.
