Hundreds of mourners said a final farewell to Lena Horne Friday, gathering in an upper East Side church to celebrate the life of the legendary jazz singer, actress and civil rights icon.
@SexyDiva78 A thought occurred to me following to my last reply. On her son's side, Lena Horne had a grandchild, Lena Jones, who took her father's looks and by extension her grandmother's looks. The child is beautiful as are her two brothers. All three have commanding presences. As a child, I was to believe that Billy Eckstine and Lena were sister and brother, both being tans with those beautiful features. On Lumet Buckley's side, Amy Lumet O'Rourke took her grandmother's looks!
@SexyDiva78 Thank you once again, you fine biographer. Still there are things I'll never get used to, and the "succession" thing. I find it so odd! And listen, Cheryl Crane didn't inherit her mother's looks (Lana Turner), either. But to go back to Horne. I have found Lumet Buckley a compelling historian, and I place her right alongside another black Brahmin, Lawrence Otis Graham. Sexy....anyting other tidbits you'd like to share, I'm all ears! lol!!!
I think she had a loving relationship don't get me wrong but her first husband kept her son. It is common for women to be closer to their daughter's children. I think it is the whole secession thing my duaghter, my daughter's daughter, etc. I know Gail had some big shoes to fill being that she didn't inherit her moms looks. I remember Lena's PBS special and she really was very forthcoming in regards to her children, her marriages. Lena had some skeletons but hey we're human.
@busterxx1033 My last post. Horne's understudy, Juliette Ball, has recently passed away in Los Angeles after a highly productive life as a member of LA's uppercrust and philanthrophical social circles. The Alabama born beauty at said to be 92 at passing. Over and out! Thank you.
@busterxx1033 Rollin, please forgive my inquiry. But was she as lovely lying in state as she was in person? So many important episodes of my life's experience comes with my being a lifelong fan of hers. A tidbit. In segregated Douglas, AZ, (Cochise County), I was delighted that the Lyric Theatre opened its doors for Horne's "Stormy Weather" to an allblack audience. It was quite a memorable experience, to say the least!
@SexyDiva78 The mini bio is enlightening while at the same time enhancing more curiosity into Horne's psyche. While her daughter is doubtless her main treasure, didn't she also maintain more than a "legal" relationship with her son, her only male child? He took his mother's features and himself produced beautiful offspring, again whom we know nothing about. These are tidbits in Horne's bio that leave DEVOTED fans in the dark about who Horne really was!
Teddy was raised by his father Louis Jones as Gail was raised by Lena. So I don't think it was much more to the relationship other than that was his mother and she would see him but he was defintely in his father;s care.
True Definition of a Classy and Gourgeous Role model!!! Luv u Mrs. Horne!!!!

It was my pleasure and my sadness to be one of 5 organ loft singers to perform at her funeral at St Ignatius loyola.
