http://frsh.ws/k7J1z6 -- This is the story of Mildred and Richard Loving who were an interracial couple who married in 1958. They were arrested and thrown in jail. They fought for their love with the help of JFK and the supreme court ruled in 1967 that interracial marriage was legal everywhere.

Yay for love!

  • robert kennedy: attorney General

  • @dianesehoward oh, fact check on that one. Ouch! I'll add an annotation

  • Thats a nice story, i think that sort of stuff is bloody rediculious. people are people :)

  • @MrPhatSlim Agreed! And a true story at that ^_^ The fight for love continues...

  • 996. Lela Richon played the part of Mildred Loving and Timothy Hutton played the part of RIchard, but it was not really met with Mrs. Loving's approval. (I saw the movie in 1996 and thought that it was very interesting). Another interesting piece of information is that although that law (against multiracial marriage)was overturned in Loving v. Virginia in 1967, there were a few states that didn't honor the Courts ruling. LA was one of them... and in many LA parishes it is still a fight.

  • @Larjo15 Wow, isn't that just crazy to think states fought "the law"? Geeze. Wasn't there that case a few years back where the couple was refused marriage?

  • I LOVE this story!! Have been with my caucasian cali boyfriend/lived with him 10 years...still going strong. ♥

  • @adriarichards Yes, I believe you are referring to the case in Tangipahoa Parish (Hammond, near New Orleans) in 2009. It still happens more often than you would imagine in a few states; but if people don't complain or report it (usually out of some type of fear) it never gets noticed or publicized. I could tell you stories that you would not believe still happening in the 20th and 21st century. Some people still hold on to a "master-slave" mentality, and don't WANT to change..

  • Actually a big issue with *FOR* my ancestors for over a thousand years; some really interesting consequences; I'll do a video on it
