Adding a deadbolt lock to your entryway can increase the safety and security of your home. Deadbolts are available with keyed entry or in combination with a doorknob or lever that uses the same key as the deadbolt. Newer designs include a keypad that allows you to program and use a personal entry code. Doors without pre-bored holes for deadlocks require a drilling template typically included with the unit or a separate installation kit with a drilling jig.

  • hey

  • @norge696 The newer Kwikset and Schlage residential locks have been redesigned to make them pick-resistant and bump-key proof. I just bought several of the new Kwikset knobs and deadbolts, and I am favorably impressed with the improvement in quality over 10 years ago. Even the least expensive Schlage lock sets have historically been very good.

  • Thanks

  • Nice video... For me, a rookie lock installer this video was right on the mark... Thanks...

  • It should not be called a "deadbolt: when it can easily be picked... Weld the key hole shut and you got a deadbolt (:

  • Instead of using a pencil to mark around striking and face-plates, I use a Stanley knife (I think they're called box-cutters in the States). You have one definite line to work to then. Have to be careful though...they bite!

  • About time someone showed this to everyone.

  • nice video thx
