@crutchfieldtv hmmm do you know why jvc discontinued this model? i was set on getting this HU but getting discontinued is not a good sign. What replaced it? Is it still worth getting this model and will JVC still provide support for this model?

@sgtmac11 Please accept my apologies for the delayed response. Placement of the wired Bluetooth microphone is crucial, especially in vehicles with a lot of ambient noise. If you haven’t already, I recommend placing the microphone by your sunvisor for the best performance. The 10’ cable length should offer plenty of slack to try it out in a couple of locations to find what works best for you. HTH!--Crutchfield

Love this HU, however I'm having troubles with phone calling. I can hear the other person just fine, however when the truck is moving they can barely hear me, saying there is a lot of noise disturbance. Is this normal?
is there anyway to customize the boot up screen, like with the pioneer HUs?

@semajgnik Well, the KW-AVX840 has been discontinued and we’ve sold through our available inventory. To answer your question, there is no mention of customizable boot-up modes. JVC does provide customizable background images and text displays, but these settings will only affect the normal operation display, not the boot-up process. I'm converting videos (mostly youtubes) so that this unit will play them from a USB stick. Any recommendations on what video settings get the best quality? I'm surprised the unit wont play mp4s!

@onetwo From the “Details” section for this product on the main Crutchfield website, the compatible video formats are: “MPEG1/2 (maximum bitrate: 4 Mbps) video files stored on a USB mass storage device. For the unit to recognize the USB medium, it must be specified as a mass storage device formatted using FAT 12/16/32.” Feel free to call for additional assistance: 800.315.0030--Crutchfield

@crutchfieldtv when my device reads my usb stick, there are these dim green lines that go across the video and distort the colors a little. any solutions for this?

@onetwo Sorry, that's a new one for us. We have not had any reports of similar issues with this model so I'm not sure what's causing the problem. If you purchased from Crutchfield, you can contact our tech support department (the direct dial # is printed on the back of your invoice). If you purchased elsewhere and the retailer will not help, you can try contacting JVC directly: 800.252.5722. HTH!--Crutchfield
