Tyra attempts to pass the Dobermann WAE - Working Aptitude Evalution.
She did very well overall although she did not like and therefore failed the umbrella even though she sniffs it almost immediately - She also was failed on her recovery time after the aggressor, the dog is supposed to calm down and return to normal within 15secs when the
threat retreats (only problem with that is she could still see the agitators legs behind the van - therefore there was no chance of a rapid calming down LOL) she did score
a +2 on the aggressor and I am very proud of her overall attempt given she is only 2yrs old.
Hey, where do you get this test done? I plan to buy a dobe from a working class breeder and would like to try this out for myself. Also, what does this test tell you anything other than "thats what the dobe is meant to do" like if he/she will be successful at shutz? thanks!

It depends where you are located - this test was done in Sydney NSW Australia as part of the annual Dobe specialty show.
I personally do not rate the "working type" breeders as they tend to breed a dog that is not stable. A good Dobermann will have all the drives you need. A good breeder of Dobes will look at the natures and can choose a puppy that shows signs of being more assertive and suited to Shutz etc, but they do good health testing and care about the betterment of the breed as well!

The WAE is to evaluate if the Dobe is performing as designed by the original creator of the breed Louis Dobermann. The dog he wanted was loyal, friendly, alert and able to discern friend from foe and show aggression only when needed.
Some of the working dogs I have seen are far too aggressive and cannot be considered anything but dangerous! As you can see from Tyras video she is friendly and lovely but mess with her or her people and she goes all out, without needing to be trained.

She did very well for a two year old, was this her first try in WAE?

Yes this was her first attempt and we did no training for it - some do / some don't do preparation. She will go very well next year when I work out how to calm her down after the aggressor LOL and I don't walk off the mark! I was very happy with her attempt this year.
Thanks for your comment :)
