Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a 2008 adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg, executive produced by George Lucas and starring Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. Set in 1957, this fourth film in the Indiana Jones film series has an older and wiser version of Indy battling agents of the Soviet Union—led by Spalko (Cate Blanchett)—for the crystal skull. Indy is assisted by his former lover Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen) as well as the greaser Mutt (Shia LaBeouf) and fellow archaeologist Mac (Ray Winstone). John Hurt and Jim Broadbent also play fellow academics. Although the previous films were inspired by film serials, this film is rooted in 1950s B-movie traditions.

The film was in development hell since the 1989 release of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, because Spielberg and Ford initially disagreed over Lucas's choice of the skulls as the plot device. Screenwriters Jeb Stuart, Jeffrey Boam, M. Night Shyamalan, Frank Darabont and Jeff Nathanson wrote drafts, before a script by David Koepp satisfied all three men in 2006. Shooting finally commenced on June 18, 2007, and took place at locations in New Mexico, New Haven, Connecticut, Hawaii, Fresno, California, and soundstages in Los Angeles. In order to keep aesthetic continuity with the previous films, there will be minimal use of computer-generated imagery and more of a reliance on traditional stuntwork, and cinematographer Janusz Kaminski has adapted his style to that of Douglas Slocombe from the previous films.

Marketing will rely heavily on the public's nostalgia for the series, with products taking inspiration from all four films. Anticipation for the film resulted in a legal dispute over an extra violating his non-disclosure agreement, and another man was arrested for stealing a computer containing various documents related to the project. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is scheduled for a worldwide release on May 22, 2008.

  • Yes I am tired of this movie being bashed. What do people want from an action movie? Stupid really....they have problems with people hiding in a Fridge but not escaping from the Hindenburg in a Triplane......or finding a magical rock in India while fighting a guy who rips hearts out of people.....or surviving lighting bolts shot out of the Ark of the Covenant???

    Get real.....

  • Oooops I forgot one....how did he survive the trip on the submarine to the secret Nazi sub base? I guess he could hold his breath for a looooong time.

See what I mean? ITS AN ACTION MOVIE YOU ZOMBIES!!!!

  • I think the scene in the 4th film where Indy tells that student that sometimes you have to get out of the library was one of the funniest sceens in the movie.

    Still makes me grin :)

  • I think it would have done better if Indy had been more like his dad was in the 3rd. They could have still had him be part of the adventure, but he wouldn't be the central strong man. I keep thinking of that scene in the 3rd where his dad takes down that plane by scaring the birds on the beach. That was a great scene. It was smart, regardless of its plausibility. I think if Indy had recaptured a bit of his youth but NOT TOO MUCH, it would have been similar to that.

  • I didn't like it because Indy hadn't changed enough. He was still cracking his whip. I didn't buy it because his dad in the 3rd film was the same age as he is playing himself in the 4th! He's too old for that. Develop his character further! Lucas didn't grow up and wasn't man enough to evolve it beyond the initial scope. Apparently, nobody opposed him. This disconnection can be seen elsewhere in the film too. It was just too shallow for me.

  • yeah i enjoyed it it was awesome so fuck off critics steven spielberg and george lucas knows what they r doin i mean watch there movies!

  • comic, Gees, I liked the part he played, if you didn't fine. I'm not replying to anymore of your comments.

  • its really not tough, the fourth film was a j oke because of mutt williams, shia isnt a bad actor he was just given a terrible charechter

  • comic, yes I want Shia's character in the film, if you don't that's ok and it is also ok if I want him in it.

  • Wait you actually want shias charechter in it. mutt williams ruined the 4th indy film. what kind of fan are you who like mutt!? i bet your one of these kids that onyl became a fan because of the new shiny film. i had to wait 10 years since when i was six and became a super fan, 10 years of fandom with hardly anything new indywise comming out then when we get another indy adventure its ruined by a idiot who swings on vines with monkeys! worst scene ever!

  • According to "Movie Talk" Harrison told People Magazine he is willing to crack the whip and sport the trademark fedora in a 5th sequel. Harrison says, "Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and myself are agreed on what the 5th adventure will concern and George is actively at work." Harrison also says, If the script is good, I'll be happy to put the constume on again." I hope Shia is in it.
