Lee Keller and Kim Cavanaugh conclude their look search engines and their supplemental services and then give a quick parental tip on looking at where children have gone using the Internet. They also provide a link to K9, a FREE program and service to help in filtering sites that students go to at home.

  • @InfoSysSenior I would like to agree, but every time I go to someone's house to help, dang, if they are using it. AOL had a great hayday. It's long over. They do still have a decent online magazine that people seem to like.

  • @InfoSysSenior I think the only primary filter that works is parent involvement. And while there are ways to bypass methods, not every kid in the K-12 environment is that savvy. Ctrl-H works if you have parameters that if the history is gone... so is your internet access.

  • Kids are much smarter than that nowadays. Ctrl + h isn't going to cut it. Filter products are definately irrelavant. You tell Maliq that the best approach is this: block the site by manipulating the host file. That won't keep all kids out of sites they shouldn't be on, but it will make them think twice about messing with the system32 files; if they find out it was manipulated. Think about it like this: if I can place inside of a search engine "bypass K9," then your kid can too.

  • AOL is NOT popular
