Plot Synapsis: A man named Jeff Smith was chossen to Replace a deceased senator in American Congress, he was chosen by his kids and a flip of a coin. when Mr. Smith gets to Washington he is amazed by the history and arcitecture all around him. But when he gets into the Congressional hall he finds out that many if not all of the politicians are corruppt. the story is of his struggle to pass a bill to build a childrens camp where a dam is currently going to be placed. after proposing a bill he is accussed of proposing the bill for his own personal benifts. showing that his intentions are honest and true he takes a stand in congress for multiple hours and tries to undo the corruption that has become an unwanted guest in congress.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is a 1939 drama film directed by Frank Capra about one man's effect on the American government. Nominated for 11 Academy Awards -- it won Best Screenplay -- the film made James Stewart a major movie star. The film also starred Jean Arthur and featured a bevy of well-known supporting actors, among them Claude Rains, Edward Arnold, Guy Kibbee, Charles Lane, and Thomas Mitchell. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington was written by Sidney Buchman, based on Lewis R. Foster's novel, The Gentleman from Montana, although the state is only mentioned once in the movie.

When a ban on American films was imposed in German-occupied France in 1942, some theaters chose to show Mr. Smith Goes to Washington as the last movie before the ban went into effect. One theater owner in Paris reportedly screened the film nonstop for 30 days after the ban was announced.
