Demonstration of the Maytag A106 washing machine. The paperwork says it was purchased May 25, 1980. It had a rubber piece go bad where it fills, and caused a water leak about 10 years ago. We haven't any any other problems with it.

  • what does the automatic button do?

  • @sincladutch That is just a blank. I think on the higher end models there would have been more push button selections in place of the "Automatic" blank.

  • to change the belt on one of these is simple...take the 2 screws out and remove the front...tilt the machine back and set it on a 2x4...reach under and pull the belt off the pump first, and then remove the main drive belt...NO TOOLS REQUIRED...reinstall the drive belt first, pushing the motor forward to allow belt to fit on the top part of the pulley, and then install the pump belt...remove the 2x4 and re-install the front.....easy as pie, should take less than 10 minutes

  • Thanks for the tip! I'll do that when the time comes to replace the belts.

  • Hey! We got a Maytag A106! But My lovely wife over filled it and burned the belt and a month later it broke, we have a brand new belt but I cannot find any online manuals to learn how to replace it. We also have the matching dryer and I recently replaced the heater element and now its almost better then new.

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

  • I've laid washing machines on their back after unhooking them. Next loosen the nuts where the motor mounts to the chassis, and slide it forward so the new belt slips on the pulleys easily. Then slide the motor back so there is tension on the belt, and tighten the nuts back up. I've done this on an old GE filter flo, and it worked pretty good. I think it would work on a Maytag too, but I've never had to change the belts so far. I look at the American-appliance website for tips.

  • I also checked to see if it had clothing stuck in between the tub and nothing....

  • Well....I fixed it again...few days later and now today it wont spin/agitate or anything the timer seems to run through as if everything is normal, full load in and it died...any idea's other then the trans? if its the trans then this lovely washer has had it...$400 part is just way to much for me at this time.

  • @dynatrak I think its water temp selection buttons, for like hot or cold during certain cycles.

  • A machine that was built to last for an unbelievable amount of time. I'm more of a Whirlpool direct drive guy, but I CANNOT give any negative comments for these machines.

  • Quite possibly the best automatic washing machine design ever made. My mom, grandmother, and aunt had late 60's early seventies models of these maytags and in 40 years the only thing that broke was a timer. Incredible reliability. America needs to build products like this again or we're screwed.

  • @tallboyyyy

Could you please tell me where you purchased the rubber fill hose. We have water coming out on the floor and we took the machine apart and we don't know where the water is coming from. There is a part that seems to have a filter on it. I think we might need that part too. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • ok i figured it out mine was built June, 1979. it ends in CL
