@rva1945 If air can escape the 0.5mm, I wonder why water cannot enter. Do you mean the water enters slower , not completely prevented from entering ?

A pump fills a plastic bag with water, air escapes throw a small hole (0.5mm); to surface, I pump the water out and the small hole prevents water from entering the bag again, creating a vacuum in the bag. This way the sub emerges again.
