Family Childbirth Center

There's nothing quite like meeting a brand new baby and that's what Rachael gets to do today. She's exploring the Spartan Stores Family Childbirth Center at Metro Health. You're invited along on the tour that includes eight large labor and delivery rooms, four antepartum rooms and one surgical suite for cesarean deliveries. Mothers, babies and their coaches have the opportunity to bond and recover in one of 19 postpartum recovery rooms furnished with a convertible couch, flat-screen TV and Internet access. Mom's are encouraged to rest and relax while babies are in the nursery. If necessary after delivery, a physician will use Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) on a newborn who is experiencing anxiety, pain, breathing or feeding difficulties, or other problems. OMT is a process where physicians use their hands to examine and treat a patient. Touch is a very important part of a newborn's growth and development. Metro Health is the only hospital in Grand Rapids to offer OMT. They also offer e-learning for childbirth education classes.
