changing the antenna of my Fritz!Box 7170 WiFi router to get better signal strength and quality in the living room and everywhere else in the house ;) it is a 9dbi antenna but i was not so impressed about the results. I hope i will find a better antenna soon.

The Fritz!Box WiFi routers have no standard antenna connector, so it is necessary to change the antenna port also.

Any suggestions regarding the extension of WiFi networks are welcome ;)

  • do you need rpsma-f to ipex cable to connect the antenna?

  • @asablic i bought a kit on ebay... it contained a cable with the necessary connectors i guess rpsma-f is the connector on the antenna, ipex would then be the connector on the router board... so the cable was ready to use ... basically i think the answer to your question is 'yes' ;)

  • Man, now that is a badass antenna, do you you need a special weapon licence for it? ;)

Anyway good and detailed video instruction, but I am not going to mod my Fritz!Box, since it is working perfectly with the standart antenna. But why is your connection so bad? Is you Fritz!Box in the basement or what? What is you distance to the box, mine is not higher than 15 meters through 2 non-bearing walls.

    P.S.: I have the same Fritz!Box 7170 WiFi router.

  • @d1oftwins yes, it is in the basement... i live in a wooden house with concrete basement. first i had the box on the 2nd floor but i needed to rearrange some things :) now it is in the basement and reception was bad. however, that antenna also did not get it as it was before :) i now have a 7270 and it got slightly better... meanwhile i did install DLAN AVplus 200 Mbit powerline adapters... those work very well ...

  • @tglynx the 7170 is now used as access point only.... connected to the 7270 using powerline ;)

  • whats about the costs of the new spares ?

  • @tglynx

Oh, didn't read that answer. I am a bit confused by Youtube late comment structuring.

That idea was to obvious, wasn't it? ^^

Well than you have no problems anymore with you WLAN I guess. :)

  • @tglynx

Hey, I use 200Mbit powerline adapters too. :D I used WLAN for a while, it works fine, but I switched to PL adapter though. Works like a charm. But the ping gets a little bit higher.

But why don't you use a WLAN repeater instead of modding you antenna? Use your PL adapters as bridge to a central point of your house and than put in a repater, so the concrete basement is not a problem anymore, not?
