  • @childericking I have relatives in Perth, W.A. I too found Australia to be a beautiful country and its people very friendly. I must get back there soon:-)

  • @ianrkav Yes, every learner finds masculine and feminine inflexions complicated. I don´t live in Australia anymore, I lived in Melbourne for a year or so, but now it´s been a while since I returned to my home country. Australia es un país hermoso, amo su variada fauna y geografía, y su gente es muy amable ;-)

  • @childericking Hi. Yes, I have noticed the similarity between Spanish and Portuguese and because of that I am learning a bit of Spanish too:-))

Actually, I find the learning of the language easy, except the pronounciation of certain words are a bit difficult for my English vocal chords! Also, this idea of masculine and feminine confuses me sometimes. We don't have that in English!

So, whereabout in Oz did you live?

    Obrigado, Gracias:-)

  • @ianrkav Sorry didn't realize your comment was that old. There are so little comments that I thought yours was recent. I am not Australian I am uruguayan the reason my profile says that I am Australian is that I was living there at the time I created my account. I understand you are learning Portuguese, it must be really hard for you. It is pretty easy for me to understand spoken and written Portuguese because Spanish and Portuguese are mutually intelligible. Very convenient isn't it?

  • @childericking By the way, where about in Oz are you? I have family in Perth. Beautiful city:-)

  • @childericking Oops. Two 'years' since I asked that question:-))

  • @childericking Yeah it means to 'kick up some dust' to the Brazilian mentality. The song is called 'Sorte Grande' which means 'big luck' directly translated but 'Jackpot' would be more accurate:-) The term Axé is a style of music as you say that means high or good energy. It has its origins in the African Yorumba religion and is used as a greeting and or to wish somebody well.

I've learnt a few things in the two since I asked that question. Two years already!! Wow:-)

    Thanks.

  • @ianrkav Let me see *levanta* means to raise/ raise up, *levanta poeira* should therefore mean *raise the dust* (most likely the dust raises because of their dancing). I don't speak Portuguese so I can't be sure. Axe is a music genre and dancing style from northern Brazil
