The Hyundai Sonata was redesigned for the 1999 model year, and the Kia Optima was introduced in the 2001 model year. The Sonata was again redesigned for 2006, but the Kia Optima remained unchanged for the early part of the 2006 model year (2006 cars manufactured before October 2005). Therefore the ratings listed here also apply to early 2006 Optimas.

Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement was well controlled. During rebound, the dummy's head hit the B-pillar and roof rail.

Injury measures — Measures taken from the head, neck, and chest indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on both tibias indicate that injuries to the lower legs would be possible. Head acceleration from the B-pillar hit was low.

My first car was an '00 Sonata. It was a great car for me! My sister has it now, and it's still going strong....the only thing that doesn't work on it are the vanity lights on the visors. These were and still are great affordable cars. Hyundai and Kia have come a long way in quality and safety.

I most certianly am thinking the same thing. I have the video (without the guy speaking), and it did pretty well for its time. If people say it's bad (some do), they are so wrong.
