So this video highlights some of the fun and mayhem out at Perhentian Kecil/Besar, the two beautiful islands that occupy the northeastern waters off peninsular Malaysia.
I took a lot of video and used quite a bit of the audio to arrange the music here ... ambient bus station sounds, kicking on old tin cans, banging on rusty old oil barrels with a piece of driftwood, running my fingers across a palm frond.
The sounds combine to re-create the atmosphere at Perhentian ... exotic, peaceful, and with a sun that cuts through the water in a most serene and captivating way.
We happened to be there on Merdeka! weekend (Malaysian Independence Day) ... hence the old-school light-with-a-fuse-and-run-like-hell fireworks.
I am still yearning to get out into some real jungle, but this trip wasn't without its run-ins with the local fauna - geckos, monitor lizards, big-ass friggin' ANTS, centipedes, sea turtles, sharks, and tons of fish.
4 days wasn't enough for this paradise ... I am sure everyone feels a little lost coming back to KL after a trip to Perhentian.
Simply stunning.
