Snow leopard actually giving birth, amazing rare footage..

Amazing edited video footage of Banham zoo's female snow leopard Enif as she gives birth to her first litter of three cubs in her favourite cubbing box.
Keepers had organised for CCTV cameras to be installed in her favourite box allowing them and the zoo's visitors to view the most amazing pictures as the cubs grew in the safety of their box, this clip shows all three cubs either being born or very shortly afterwards and also includes footage of the cubs playing at 7 weeks of age.
Enif is one of the most important animals in the breeding programme for this endangered species and the birth of the cubs had been eagerly awaited by the zoo and the programme coordinator.

Hi, ZooVideosHD. The three cubs, if I can still call them that, are still at Banham. They have all received recomendations under the European Breeding Programme to move to new homes late this year.

Dear macklinnful, If you read the uploaders comments added 8 months ago in response to a previous comment, the female had complete free access to the cubbing box and was free to come and go as she pleased, she chose to give birth in there and was not confined to the box in any way. If you look at 2.11 onwards you can clearly see her sitting in the open entrance, the images were captured from tiny infra red CCTV cameras that were concealed in the 4 corners of the box.

In the wild female snow leopards find a secure and secluded place to have their cubs such as a small cave. In captivity we try to replicate this and allowed Enif to choose where she had her cubs. We provided a wooden nest box with a series of baffles in the entrance to give her the privacy that she needed. Enif was free to come and go as she pleased. She was obviously very happy with the arrangement because she has raised 3 very strong and healthy cubs
