Western Spirit Mountain Bike Trip - Telluride to Moab

We had considered doing the San Juan Hut to Hut trip, but spending a little extra money and going with Western Spirit had the following advantages:

1. They shuttle you from Moab to Telluride for the start
2. You don't have to sleep in a hut with 6 strangers, you have the privacy of your own tent.
3. You don't have to cook - they cook for you - and MAN DO THEY DO A FANTASTIC JOB!
4. You don't have to do any clean up!
5. You don't have to carry your own gear - they carry it for you.
6. You don't need to worry about breaking down - they have lots of spare parts and even a spare bike.
7. You won't get lost.

There probably were other advantages, but that's all I can think of.

The guides were AWESOME, very professional and take their job very seriously.

The route was spectacular and the scenery changed every day.

I absolutely would do another trip with Western Spirit. They're a first class organization!

  • Where was the single track guys? Nice video anyway.

  • This particular trip didn't have any, but many of theirs do.

  • Great video I really enjoyed it! I'm considering doing the hut route. why did you choose this way?

  • We considered doing the hut to hut too, but went with Western Spirit for several reasons:

    1. We couldn't get any friends to go with us and didn't want to risk sleeping in the huts with a bunch of strangers.

    2. We didn't want to carry our gear if we didn't have to.

    3. We didn't want to clean dishes (and boy Western Spirit food was AWESOME, much better than hut food I suspect)

    4. Any mechanical problems - they would fix.

    5. No risk of getting lost.

    6. Takes one less day with them

  • is that a specialized bike your riding?

  • Yes it was. We rented them. I didn't really like it. The suspension was WAY TOO SOFT even when inflated pretty hard so I had the rear shock locked out 99% of the trip. There's nothing like your own bike, but we just didn't want to deal with lugging ours to and then around Colorado. Rented several bikes. In Durango, I rented an Intense 5.5... what a nice ride that was! :-)

  • Looks like it was an awesome trip!

  • Great video. I sent to a friend who is considering this tour. We've done it twice about 10 years apart because of the beauty of the Plateau.

What kind of camera did you use while riding?

  • They could totally use this as a promotion video

  • Thanks for the Out West clips. Takes me back to Reno and all my riding in and around there and Tahoe. There's nothing like a 2 hour ascent followed by 1/2 an hour of pedaling free downhill!

  • It looks like you had a great time even if it was on a rented bike....Awesome video by the way!!
