Chime Bells returned to Channing Church

On December 30th and 31st 2009 a rare set of chime bells was returned to the steeple of our congregation, Channing Memorial Church in Newport, RI, with the addition of one new bell.

As part of the steeple restoration project the nine original bells were sent overseas to be re-tuned. In this video you can see bands of color inside the bells from the re-tuning process. The etched bands adjust the partial resonances of the parts of the bells bringing each bell back to its original note.

Over the Summer and Fall the Channing Church steeple was taken down stone by stone and then rebuilt.
