@violinlab thank you

@caracaes That's an extreme over- simplification. "exceedingly strong pressure" is just silly. It's the strong momentum of the"hammer drop" from the finger action that stops the string. This really isn't pressure in the sense that Maya Bang is expressing it. Once the mechanism of the "hammer drop" is correct, and the hand strength is there, it takes very little "pressure" to keep the string down. As for the bow pressure,... sorry not enough space. Violin Lab has many videos on the subject.

@caracaes The book says exactly: "The fingers should stop the strings with exceendingly strong pressure, but without stiffening or cramping the hand or fingers" and " The bow should be drawn lightly and smoothly over the strings without any rough or heavy pressure".

My teacher used to teach me to use high pressure on left hand, and move the bow very lightly. And that's what I can understand from reading Maya Bang Violin Book as well, which was the basebook he used to teach me. What can you say about that?
I have left classes long ago, now I'm trying to learn on my own with internet videos. Thanks!

I have this problem and it's very difficult for me, but you explained it very good!! I will try what you said
wow!! that's great! do you have any videos where we can listen to you playing it? that would be a baroque violin? was it modified to modern standards? thank you

@avaldezr It was a Baroque violin at one time and then adapted at some point. The scroll isn't original to the instrument, making it much more affordable. There are videos of my playing on my website Violin Lab (can't post website addresses here, but you can google it). In the community section I posted a performance of a Bach Trio Sonata with flute and continuo. I also have video lessons of the Meditation from Thais, and I play each phrase before the tutorial.

your video is really didactic and helpful! your sound/violin is beautiful, and you're gorgeous!! could you tell me about your violin please? who is the maker, how old, wood, etc?

@avaldezr THanks! I play on a 7/8 size old Italian dating around 1670. I have a set of papers saying that it was made by Nicholas Amati, but Charles Beare in London didn't think it was an Amati. Oh well. It doesn't matter, I love it and it's the only violin I will ever have.
