Former President Bill Clinton told NBC's David Gregory on "Meet the Press" that the so-called "vast right-wing conspiracy" still exists and is "as virulent as it was," but has had its impact diminished by the nation's changing demographics.
Gregory asked: Your wife famously talked about the vast right wing conspiracy targeting you. As you look at this opposition on the right to President Obama, is it still there?
The former President replied: Oh, you bet. Sure it is. It's not as strong as it was, because America has changed demographically. But it's as virulent as it was. I mean, they're saying things about him. You know, it's like when they accused me of murder, and all that stuff they did... But... it's not really good for the Republicans and the country, what's going on now. I mean, they may be hurting President Obama. They can take his numbers down. They can run his opposition up. But, fundamentally, he and his team have a positive agenda for America. Their agenda seems to be wanting him to fail. And that's not a prescription for a good America."
He added that Republicans, while weakened as a party, have hurt President Barack Obama and the congressional Democrats, but he doesn't expect a repeat of the 1994 Republican takeover in next year's mid-term elections.
"There's no way they can make it that bad," Clinton said. "Number one, the country is more diverse and more interested in positive action. Number two, they've [the American public] seen this movie before, because they had eight years under President Bush when the Republicans finally had the whole government, and they know the results were bad. And, number three, the Democrats haven't taken on the gun lobby like I did, and they took 15 of our members out. So... whatever happens, it'll be manageable for the president."

@vgcq02 agreed. i was just saying that the dems have to do the same thing now too since they dont control both senate AND house

@darkpyrojohn I saw it coming. However GOP did not win the senate. If GOP wants to pass something through a DEM senate it would have to be centrist. That is only if the GOP does not put their interest ahead of the country's interests.

bill clinton was wrong, 2010 was not just a repeat of 1994, but it was an even bigger repudiation of obama than 1994 was against him. republicans were far more victorious last week than any time since the 1930s!

I'm not saying that nobody voted for the republicans, but just that ppl appereantly forgot who brought America in the crisis. And Obama can't solve the mess in 2yrs what Bush junior caused in 8 years. And they are political enemies - obviously they won't work together that easily...

@xdraXXosx obviously some one had to have voted for republicans i mean they wouldnt have gained 64 seats in the house and the majority. and they gained 5 seats in the senate pulling the majority down a quite a bit. even obama is saying their gonna have to work with the republicans now. which he pretty much refused to do til now... anyone can see that man. have a nice day :D
