I'm proud to be Miao/Hmong. By the way, there are close to 400,000 Hmong live in the United States because of their role helping the US fight against North Vietnam during the VIETNAM WAR 1961-1973. We don't call ourself Miao, we called ourself Hmong. Much love to all the Hmong or Miao that live all over the globe such as Thailand, Burma, Laos, Vietnam, China, USA, France, Japan, South America, and other country i don't know yet.

My ancesters migrated some where in China to Laos over hundred years ago, but now I live in the USA. @Bioloser Since Qianlong Emperor time during the early Qing dynasty, they already have records of the minorities mainly in 4 books with depictions of each ethnic group. And at chinese new year gala event, the ethnic groups celebrate their own minority culture on stage in the form of song and dance. You can see of these on youtube.

Yes of course. Many ethnic groups are lumped into one of the 56 classified ethnic groups. For examples, the Miao ethnic... there are many branches of Miao ethnic groups, who speak different languages and call themselves by different name. Miao is a given ascribed name only.. I guess history, linguistic, traditions, religion and etc.. are used to determine what group each ethnic group belongs to.
