This video demonstrates the installation of the Homebrew Channel, backing up the Nintendo Wii™'s NAND and installing DVDx on a System Menu v3.3u console. The Homebrew Channel allows you to boot homebrew via it's GUI from the Wii's SD Card slot. Backing up your NAND is a good practice as if you corrupt it is able to be fixed. Lastly, DVDx is a program that patches the Wii's NAND to allow you to read data from DVD-R discs in homebrew applications (like loading ROM files from within emulators).

"Hacking" your console is not illegal. What you DO with it afterward might be. Lets say you rent a game, then you make a copy of it. That is illegal. Because you made a copy of a game that you didn't own. But, if the game was yours, then you are entitled to make one backup copy of it. Homebrew is also not illegal has long has there is no copyrighted code/material in it. Type GAMERZCREED in Google to get to a site that has tons of Homebrew and the latest console hacking news available.
