Yesterday's footage of swimming elk was just a lucky catch on the spur of the moment, handheld from the car on the way to work.
This morning I went back, hoping for a better shot, hoping the herd would swim again.
There was barely time to set up before the elk came trotting off Mt. Clemans, dropped into the Naches River and swam across to the Oak Creek Wildlife Area.
The last calf stumbles and has some difficulty making it out of the high spring runoff, but as his mother watches he finally emerges to shake off and join her.
See the Butt Heads video for footage I caught a few minutes later.
