@ w5cdt and timiansteph - Thank you both for your comments. I spoke with Captain McClure in order to secure his guidance prior to filming "The Highest Step In The World". (He stressed the need to discuss NASA's refusal to utilize Manhigh;s three-gas breathing mixture in Project Mercury - a decision he felt doomed the crew of Apollo One.) Unfortunately Demi died about a week before our scheduled interview. I envy you both your association, and deeply regret not being able to meet him in person.

I received my NAUI certification in 1971 from Demi McClure. I never knew about his pre-astronaut work until years later. He was a humble guy! I still have my old NAUI card somewhere...with Demi's signature on it.

Cliff McClure was my diving instructor in 1980. He was one of the nicest, humblest, and smartest persons I've ever met. The diving community owes much to his patents and inventions. I'm proud to say that I was able to be his student.
