This is yet another of my rare 45s, although it is much more common and easier to find than the previous Iron Butterfly singles I uploaded. This was recorded in 1971 after keyboardist/lead vocalist Doug Ingle left. So the lineup here is:
Mike Pinera - Lead Guitar/Lead Vocals
Rhino - Lead Guitar
Lee Dorman - Bass/Vocals
Ron Bushy - Drums

So that makes this an especially interesting Iron Butterfly song to listen to.

It should also be noted that this is the first Iron Butterfly song to include backup singers and an assortment of horns.

Enjoy!

  • Hey all I will be re uploading this song (with better quality). So stick around!

  • are there anymore songs after this or what I mean is is there anymore songs with horns? Did they ever play this song live? I need to know more. I have always loved these guys. Lee Dorman has always and will be a big infuence to me as abass player as Geezer Butler is too. Both hand in ahnd these guys can and will always show me . Andwhat real bass players can do, not excluding Flea and Billy Sheehan. No disrespect on any others, just so you all know!!

As far as I know the lineup on this song did not record any other songs with horns. This song was recorded in early-mid 1971 which was right before they broke up. That being said they probably didn't last long enough to play this song live. Now in 1975 the Erik Braunn led Iron Butterfly recorded a song called Free (for their Sun and Steel album) that also had horns. So I'm pretty sure Silly Sally and Free are the only song IB recorded with horns. I'll have to check now.

  • @PsychedelicTeen Okay I should clarify that comment a bit more. Free was the only song that used horns in the same funky way that Silly Sally did. But the song I'm Right, I'm Wrong (from Sun and Steel) had very limited use of horns and even then they were used very differently in contrast to this song. Oh and the song Beyond the Milky Way has a sax solo. I hope that helps! Thanks for the interest!

  • thanx dude.. love iron butterfly so much! i´m always sad because of the limited songs that exists.. nice track. R.I.P. Doug Ingle ..by the way..

  • Doug Ingle is alive. He has a few new songs up on You Tube (@ unconsciouspower) , and even on myspace , under his name. Maybe he got with the hip kiddies on Facebook , since. I LIKE this song all right , the horns kind of detract from it , to me. Seems like Pinera is trying hard to sound like Ingle in a more cracker - Soul kinda way. But , it works. I did'nt know about this song , tho' , so , it's interesting.

  • @PsychedelicTeen I'm arriving late to this discussion , but , I have'nt heard anything about Doug Ingle being deceased. I can look it up. Erik Braunn , of course , passed away a few years ago , maybe that was the cause of some confusion ? Or , maybe someone said that , because Doug has'nt worked with the group for so many years . I met him in '96 , super nice guy.

  • 6-15-2011. Ain't it fine? Lee Dorman is 69. Happy Birthday, Lee. You all were one of the greatest bands of all time.

  • damn, i was expecting, or hoping for a sweet smoke cover

  • No! This is NOT the IB I knew and loved! It's too influenced by Blues Image (Ride, Captain Ride!") and Cactus (both fronted by titanic ego Mike Pinera. It has NO presence of the heart of the group, it's "vital" organist, Doug Ingle! It simply IS a "silly" song - possibly a throwaway Pinera had sitting under a stashbox!
