An odd mix of Bioshock 2, Robert Ryan, and Annette Hanshaw's wonderful 1929 recording of "Daddy Won't You Please Come Home". That recording is featured in the video game Bioshock 2, which is incorporated into this video, along with clips from "The Set-Up", "Captain Nemo And The Underwater City" and family home movies from the 1960's.

  • Thank you Mook your dad was my favourite actor. Malcolm

  • @malc239 Really nice to hear that, thanks!

  • It's great when the window of the diving suit dissolves to the home movie of Ryan...A lovely dark valentine to the old man! Hope you do more stuff like this...(not taking anything away from the classic Bix clips)

  • @CaseyMacB4T

Thanks for the nice comment - I was just thinking about deleting this video because it seems to be really creeping out a lot of people! I've gotten messages saying stuff like: "What would FREUD think of this?" "Have you considered psychoanalysis?" My intention was to create a dark - hopefully wistful - valentine to a father who played a lot of dark characters in movies that keep floating through my life almost 40 years after his death.

  • Wonderful!

I assume that's a fantasy "you" getting the dolly, and the real you in the two shots: One with Dad in the cavalry uniform, the other at the end. Yes?

  • That would be me with my dad on the set of "Custer of the West" (in Spain, 1966) and with my dad in a photo from the LA Times sometime around 1960. The girl with the doll is a character in Bioshock 2 ... which has such an insanely complicated plot I can't begin to understand (let alone explain) what's going on in that scene ... I just like the way it looks!

  • very original and tender video, thanks for sharing, Lisa!

  • Wonderfully evocative and dreamlike. Like the movies we all have running through our heads.

  • This is pretty amazing ... wow.

  • Strong stuff---I worked in drive-ins and managed movie theaters where your Dad's movies ran. He never phoned it in. You are in a unique position >>> the rest of us have a collection of old photos and clippings of our dads----yours is on TCM, FXM AMC and the others weekly, sometimes daily !!! What really put your dad over for me was that he was a Marine. Me too. Robert Ryan was BIG, Big in every way from the bottom up and the inside out---he has no equal.

  • great music, mook ryan.

  • L, Brilliant intermix of genre and context. Montage with the contrast set to 11. Love it. -S
