Doug Woodring tells us about a goldfish named Kai (pronounced Kї ) that needs your help. As part of a Facebook campaign, Kai will dwell in a segregated space within an aquarium full of plastic garbage for 30 days, essentially risking his life on a streaming 24/7 web cam to give people around the world a glimpse of what it's like to live in a swirling mess of plastic known as the Plastic Vortex. Beyond raising awareness, his mission is to encourage donations for Project Kaisei's next ocean cleanup voyage this summer/fall.

To "Save Kai" from the threats faced by countless other marine life, consumers can make donations via Facebook -- www.facebook.com/projectkaisei - in as little as $5 increments between Tues., May 3 and World Ocean's Day on June 8. Each donation to Project Kaisei removes a piece of plastic from Kai's polluted home, moving him closer to swimming in a clean, plastic-free environment.

All proceeds from the campaign will go toward helping Project Kaisei, a global non-profit, fund its next clean up expedition scheduled for this summer. You can access more background on last summer's expedition via this press release, and we have photos and video available.
