NIce speech there MIke. Too bad the entire premise of it is based on a lie. The Obamas give over 14 percent to charitable contributions - not 1%. Now go back and re-write your pack of lies and open the bible to the page thats discusses that 'Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness.'

When you Bear False Witness by making up nasty fantasies about what you think the President will or will not give once out of office - you are indeed a little gossip. Keep your crystal ball and predictions, which have NOTHING to do with Christianity, to yourself.

It's not gossip. It's fact look it up. You have to ask yourself a question. Do you want to know the Truth OR do you want to find what supports your Beliefs.

I am a Christian commenting on giving. One who actually believes and follows the Biblical Principle behind it. 10%. If you are not a Christian, or do not believe in giving according to the bible. Then you really have no business trying to Criticize a man of God for speaking according to the Scripture.

Yeah, shame on him for not giving more when he was a teenager - and for continually increasing the percentage ever since! LOL. Im not interested in your fantasy based visions of what he will or wont give once out of office - keep your nasty gossip to yourself.

I agree with you in that if I say God and do not ascribe to God a particular faith it would be by your definition a deistic statement. Regarding my second statement I don't know that i said its governments job to "not mess with us". If I did, I should not have. I believe when governments overstep their governing role into a dictating role that is overstepping their authority. I agree that governments have a responsibility to justice. Mistaken: Kinda seemed like your whole third point.

They said that we were endowed by our creator, not by Jesus or Yahweh, that is a deistic statement. “That we are endowed with natural rights” is the point of the phrase, and they also charged government (Not religion) with doing justice and securing those rights. Which brings me to your second point, the role of government is not to “not mess with us” but to do justice and secure our rights. Lastly, what was I mistaken about? Charity “isn’t” a spiritual virtue???

When I was younger I assumed food stamps, welfare, government benefits were all good ideas because Christians aren't suppose to let others go hungry. Now that I'm older I still feel the same moral obligations, but feel Government is the worst way to do this. We are suppose to pay taxes, no rate is discussed, just whatever it is. The real argument is who do you think runs the better charity - The US Government or Bill & Melinda Gates foundation?
