Here's my tip for college. It's not meant in any any sarcastic way, but meant genuinely.

Following a set of rules which totally define the choices you make is a very bad idea. This goes not just for college, but for life. You're a human being, express yourself in your own way.

@beckyluuwho Yeah, you're right! Personally, what I've found from myself and my friends (I'm a college junior) is that most of the time the binding one is called early decision and the secured spot one is early action, so it seems your college just renamed it!

@theprattclass Actually, mine was called Early DECISION and it didn't bind me at all, nor anyone else. It depends on the college/university you're applying to, and the precise "name" that it's called also varies depending on the college/university.

@beckyluuwho early decision binds you unless you can't afford it financially ... early ACTION secures you a spot! It's really confusing!!!

@msmadzillafy actually, no, it doesn't REQUIRE that you go there if you get accepted into early decision. But it just secures you a spot :) SO, even if you're not sure, I think it's always good to try for it, because if you don't get in early decision, you can always RE-submit your application for "regular decision" which is when everyone else applies :) that way you have more chances of getting in!
