Actually you do not. This effect can be done with anything from photoshop to iphoto. And also, there is no such thing as a tilt and shift camera. there are tilt and shift lenses that cost around 1000, which anyone can operate, not only a pro... so about everything you said was wrong.

The reason as to why it does not look as realistic as others is because of the focus. Also i think the hue/saturation as well as the curves could have been altered a bit to make it look a bit more alive

you blur the distance of the frame, giving the illusion of relativly close distance

Yeah, I don't think he used a tilt lens, because it just doesn't look good. It's probably done in software, but if software can only give results like this, I'd be thinking of getting a tilt lens. Probably too expensive though

What camera do you own? I think the Canon ones are the cheapest but they're all over $1,000
