@kenpalmer1965 If he'd thought he had a chance of beating Clubber, he'd have challenged Lang to fight after Clubber had won the title from Balboa. But Apollo was significantly older now and figured he could gain some glory by helping his old nemesis, whom he'd grown to respect over the years, to make a successful comeback.

@dvharris75 I agree. Rocky did not prepare well for the fight. He was clowing around signing autographs and being kissed by women while Clubber was killing himself--alone--in his private training facility. And when Mickey had his heart attack just before the fight was the final nail in the coffin. The scene after the fight when Mickey died and Rocky cried over him was soooo sad.

@19OfficerDude I don't know... Rocky trained for two years to fight Drago. For this fight with Clubber he did what... a few weeks worth of half training half posing for fans?

I would like to have seen a match between Apollo and Clubber Lang. That would have been very interesting to see watching Apollo fighting Lang the way he trained Rocky to fight Lang. I think Apollo would have worn him down and then closed in for the kill.

Rocky had absolutely no chance here because he wasn't as hungry as Clubber Lang, and he didn't take the fight as seriously as he should have while he was training for it as you saw in the gym, and Mickey knew that. Also, Rocky had fear in his eyes and Clubber saw that. And finally, Rocky was too shaken up with his manager laying in the back suffering from a heart attack. He just wasn't comfortable without him in his corner. This whole formula spelled defeat for him.
